Our Guest Speakers

Our women in motorsport Virtual Networking Lunch guest speakers will cover the various officiating roles from the Race Secretary, through to the officials and volunteers that you don’t want to meet as a driver or riders such as Fire & Rescue and Medical.

Denise Stronach – Race Secretary

Denise is on the Management Committee for the ASBK – Australian Superbikes Nationals, the race organising committees for World Superbikes, the race organising committee for MotoGP Phillip Island and is a Life Member of the Motor Cycle Racing Club of WA.

Denise has actively been involved in motorsport since the 80s and grew up in a road racing family with her father and brothers competing. She married a racer, her sons compete and her daughter was previously involved with Racesafe Medical Team for Australian Superbike nationals.

Denise’s favourite part of being an official is the people and supporting officials and competitors.  

Debra Morell – Scrutineer

If not Scurtineering at Supercars events, Debra also officiates in pit lane, grid marshalling and as a trackside official at Sydney Motorsport Park & Bathurst.

Debra got started in motorsport through friends that had an interest in car racing and has participated in demolition derby and drag racing. 

Debra’s favourite part of being an official – she loves meeting like minded people, being around cars and supporting motorsport.

Lucy Hatton – Timekeeper

Lucy has been involved in motorsport for the past 10 years and enjoys mentoring new officials, helping them look at opportunities to enhance their skills and enjoyment.

Lucy’s faviour part of being an official – The people you meet and the satisfaction of helping a good event for all to be invovled in.

Jessica Nicholson – Clerk of Course, Radio Communications & Deputy Race Director

Not only is Jessica a Deputy Race Director for Porsche Carrera Cup, she’s also a Clerk of Course, officiates in radio communications, a rally navigator, racecar driver and mentor for upcoming officials. She’s also an event assessor which helps officials upgrade their licence to higher roles within officiating.

Jessica’s favourite part of being an official – Being part of a team and all the lovely people she has met along the way that have come life long friends. 

Lisa Totani – Grid Marshal

Lisa’s vast officiating experience expands from club level circuit racing, to dirt and tarmac rally, to Supercars and Formula 1. There aren’t many types of events that Lisa doesn’t have officiating experience in.

Lisa’s favourite part of being an official – The people! She loves meeting, socialising and learning off others. Officiating has exposed her to a broad variety of people from all walks of life. She admires the respect she earns from other volunteers and competitors for the role she plays in making the event a success. 

Jenny Atkinson – Flag Marshal

Jenny has been involved in motorsport from a young age and at the age of 16 was Australian Motocross Champion (so cool). Jenny now volunteers her time as a Flag Marshall and Chief Flag Marshal at motocross, flat track and speedway events.

Jenny’s part of being an official is seeing the new generation of talent come through and watch and encourage that development. 

Karin Ross – Steward

Karin has been involved in motorsport for 20 years as a driver and an official. As well as the Stewards role, Karin officiates as Assistant Clerk of Course, Safety Car Communicator and Driving Standards Officer for the Improved Production Racing Association (IPRA).

Karin’s favourite part of being an official is the friends she’s made along the way. 

Heather (Chook) Connolly – Fire & Rescue

Heather has been involved in motorsport for 25 years and is part of the Fire & Rescue team at Sydney Motorsport Park. Heather is the Chair of the ARDC Volunteer Committee and encourages anyone from any age or background to have a go!

Heather’s favourite part of being an official is the comaradarie with like minded people. 

Dr Karyn Lun – Medical Officer

Karyn has been involved in motorsport for over 25 years and officiates as a Medical Officer at Supercars, Formula 1 and World Rally Championship events. Karyn is also on the Australian Women in Motorsport Commission and National Medical Advisory Committee.

Karyn’s favourite part of being an official is the friendships (longstanding and new, local and international), camaraderie and contributing to the sport.
